Guidelines for Wearing Rudraksha
• The bead should ideally remain close to the skin while wearing it. It may also be placed in the puja room so the whole family can receive its spiritual benefits.
• Once worn by a person, a Rudraksha should not be shared, exchanged, or transferred to someone else.
• It is traditionally advised not to wear Rudraksha when attending funerals.
• Wearing Rudraksha regularly with faith and devotion is believed to enhance its positive influence.
Dos and Donts of wearing Rudraksha:
• Keep the beads as close to your skin as possible and not let others to touch. Rudraksha can also be kept in Puja room and prayed for benefit of whole family.
• Rudrakshas should not be shared / exchanged / transferred /from one person to another person after it has been worn.
• Do not wear Rudraksha while going to funerals. This is the most important task to remember.
• Make Rudraksha a part of your body. Wear it daily like a cloths and don't think and give too much attention to it , you will find more effects.
Cleaning and Care of Rudraksha
To maintain the bead, it should be kept clean. The Rudraksha can be soaked in warm water overnight and gently cleaned with a soft plastic brush. After washing with normal water, allow it to dry naturally. Once dry, a small amount of sandalwood oil can be applied to keep the bead nourished. Offering incense and sandalwood paste while chanting the Rudraksha mantra 11 times is also a traditional practice.
Women and Rudraksha
In Hindu philosophy, the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati represents balance and completeness. Because of this belief, women can also wear Rudraksha and benefit from its spiritual energy. Many people believe that Rudraksha helps create harmony within the body and mind.
Simple Ritual Before Wearing Rudraksha
• Sprinkle the Rudraksha with Gangajal or clean water.
• Apply a small amount of sandalwood paste.
• Offer incense or dhoop.
• Offer a fresh flower as a sign of devotion.
• Touch the Rudraksha to a Shivling or to the image of Lord Shiva and chant “Om Namah Shivaya” at least 11 times.
After completing this simple ritual, the Rudraksha can be worn or placed in the puja space.
